John Beakes: Cool Deliberate Courage: John Eager Howard in the American Revolution coauthored with Jim Piecuch

From the early campaigns of the Revolutionary War in 1776 to the final battles in 1781, Lieutenant Colonel John Eager Howard of the Maryland Line built a reputation as outstanding military leader. One author calls Howard "one of the finest regimental commanders in American History." Contemporaries, including George Washington and Nathaniel Greene, knew well the impressive fighting qualities of this young officer. Howard participated in the New York campaign of 1776 and the Philadelphia campaign of 1777, led his troops heroically as they fought heroically at the Battle of Camden in SC in 1780, and was awarded a silver medal by Congress for his superb performance at the 1781 Battle of Cowpens. After the war, Howard held several important offices including Governor of Maryland and U.S. Senator. This is the first miltary biography of this distinguished soldier.
Austin Campbell: The Grasshopper Man

After years of writing scientific articles, Maryland native T. Austin Campbell decided to focus his creativity on science fiction. He uses his many experiences as a consultant and plant explorer in Asia to add authenticity, depth, and texture to his novels. His latest novel, The Grasshopper Man, is a science fiction thriller that reflects his love of travel, especially in Asia, and his fascination with the human mind, Oriental religions, and alternative reality.
Dr. Glenn King: Traditional Cultures:A Survey of Nonwestern Experience and Achievement

This uniquely broad survey reconstructs the nonwestern world as it was before the main onslaught of European imperialism. It offers a systematic overview rather than an idiosyncratic selection of particular cultures. The author minimizes redundancy with a scheme of nested cultural units he calls Domains, Zones, and Areas. Having made generalizations about a Domain, King then takes these as given and emphasizes the distinctive features of each Zone within the Domain. The same approach is used for each Zone and its constituent Areas. Comparison is facilitated by using the same categories in describing every cultural unit: material culture, social relations, and knowledge and expression. In addition to providing an overview of traditional cultures, the book imparts an appreciation for the diversity of human experience and achievement. It also gives the reader a foundation for understanding traditions that survive today, illuminating topics such as the meaning of gambling to Native Americans and the significance of female seclusion in Middle Eastern cultures. Highly organized and concise, King’s systematic approach will help students learn and retain a large amount of material, which they can apply to other anthropology courses, other disciplines, and to the world around them. The material is presented as objectively as possible so that instructors can emphasize any theoretical or topical perspective. William J Koenig: Over the hump: airlift to China

Contains very good maps and excellent text which covers every aspect of the airbridge to China. The author presents the strategic background of the airlift operation and clears enough the picture of the complex relations between the Allies and the Chinese Nationalists. In the reviewer's opinion the best chapter was the one dealing with the practical difficulties of flying "over the hump", like the adverse weather, the logistics, the many mechanical problems of new aircraft types, how and when the Indian airbases were constructed and how the tonnage grew from a mere hundred tons a month to over 70.000 tons (!) a month in three years.

William J Koenig: The Burmese Polity, 1752-1819: Politics, Administration, and Social Organization in the Early Kon-baung Period

An article from The Journal of the American Oriental Society, published by American Oriental Society on October 1, 1992.
Dr. Paul W. Ludwig: Eros and Polis: Desire and Community in Greek Political Theory

Paul Ludwig examines how and why Greek theorists treated political passions as erotic. Because of the tiny size of ancient Greek cities, contemporary theory and ideology could conceive of entire communities based on desire. A recurrent aspiration was to transform the polity into one great household that would bind the citizens together through ties of mutual affection. In this study, Ludwig evaluates sexuality, love, and civic friendship as sources of political attachment and as bonds of political association.
