Getting Involved |

We Invite You to Become Involved with Us!"The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ." Healthy, growing congregations are not "audiences" -- they are not gatherings of individuals who listen to or watch what is happening on stage. Nor are they spiritual "service stations" -- where individual consumers or customers come to obtain a particular service or commodity for themselves. Rather, healthy, growing congregations are complex networks of communities, where people get involved together, engage with one another, work together, grow together, in community together. (Which is why our most significant act of worship together is "communion." Our spiritual experience, growth, and transformation is not only enhanced by our getting involved in ministry and community with others, but indeed, to a surprising extent depends on it. It's not because we have any spare time and are just "looking for something to do" that we participate in small groups, Bible studies, and discipleship groups. Rather, we invest our precious time in such experiences, because of how such involvement transforms the lives of the participants. We are disciples of Christ -- in community. Moreover, we don't create ministry teams, committees, and mission activities because there is work that needs doing. Instead, we find work to do together as a means for creating and building community. Working together helps us transcend our individual experience, for the sake of our spiritual experience, growth, and transformation. We invite to you get involved with us, by participating both in one of our many spiritual formation programs, and also by participating in one of our many ministries. Thus, with God's help, we create spiritual community -- in which we encourage one another to courageously and honestly respond to God's call to become disciples. In community we can discover the connection of spirituality and ministry, we discern our individual and collective missions, and we find the joy and mutual support that comes when we follow Jesus together. And to our surprise, we discover that this was God's intention all along: for true and healthy religion was never a private matter, but a community experience. We invite you to become part of our community! See our Newcomers page for more information about how to become part of the life of St Marks.
