The Protestant Episcopal Church of America

Our Deacon: The Rev. Madeleine Beard+
Email: beardmcd@aol.com

Madeleine+ first came to St. Mark's as a diaconal intern in 2005, and was ordained Deacon and appointed to St. Mark's in June, 2006.

Deacons are non-stipendiary, ordained leaders, who inspire and lead the Church to serve the world, and who bring the world to the Church. At St. Mark's Madeleine works primarily with the Outreach and Pastoral Care Committees and hopes to encourage, inspire, and equip you for ministry to the whole world outside our windows!

Madeleine serves with the Justice Ministries of the Diocese and is responsible for the MD Episcopal Public Policy Network webpage and listserve.  She also serves on the Diocesan Global Mission Committee

St. Mark's in the World: Outreach Ministries

Pray the Names we pray every Sunday

Choose Compassion over consumption.  "Take your stimulus check and Give It 4 Good" - Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation is asking us to pledge all or a portion (0.7% is the Millennuim Development Goals amount) to the MDGs.  Learn more and join me in signing the pledge at http://www.e4gr.org/giveit4good.htm.  Give your donation to the St. Mark's Scholarship Fund or to Episcopal Relief and Development.

Grassroots will open their new homeless shelter on May 15 and they do not have enough home goods for the clients. Specifically, they need new pillows, twin bed size sheets and towel sets. If you have new items in their closets you are not going to use -- towels that turned out to be the wrong color, or something like that -- and would be willing to donate the items, bring them in and put them at the Outreach table. Everything needs to be NEW. If you would like to donate money instead, make the check to St. Mark's with Outreach-Grassroots on the memo line.

Prepare dinner for Grassroots.  See the flyer at the Outreach Table to participate in this ministry.

The children of St. Mark's collected $158.00 for the Diocese's Bread for Itipini project. St. Mark's total was $316.00.

Prepare boxes for those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. A good web site for this is anysoldier.com where there is information on how and what to send.

Be a ship visitor.  Basic requirements include being able to volunteer 4-6 hours per week, ability to climb stairs and enjoy meeting seafarers from around the world.  To learn more, call Mary+Davission or write baltseafarers@aol.com.
